The Milan calendar
A working calendar of Milan's event year: the five weeks when venues, crew and suppliers are unavailable at any price, the quiet weeks that produce better results than clients expect, and how far ahead each period needs to be booked.

Five weeks are not yours
Milan is a small city with a large event industry. For roughly five weeks of the year, the venues, the crews, the trucks, the printers and the hotels are all committed simultaneously, and no budget unlocks them.
If your date falls inside one of those weeks, everything in this article applies. If it does not, you have far more room than you have been told.
February and September — fashion week
The two women's ready-to-wear weeks. Milano Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 runs 22 to 28 September 2026; the following women's edition falls in late February 2027, with dates confirmed by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana in advance.
What this means practically: central venues are held twelve months ahead by returning brands. Crew, lighting suppliers and photographers are booked by June for September. Hotel rates roughly double. And the press you want is looking at sixty other shows in the same seven days.
Showing during fashion week buys you an audience that is already in the city. It costs you availability, price and attention, all at once. For a first-time brand it is often the wrong trade — a well-produced event the week before the official calendar opens can get more of the right people in the room, at half the production cost.
April — design week
The most expensive week of the Milan year, and the one most underestimated by fashion-side clients who assume it does not affect them.
Salone del Mobile 2027 runs 13 to 18 April 2027 at Fiera Milano Rho, with Fuorisalone across the city from 12 to 18 April. During design week the entire city is an exhibition: Brera, Tortona, Isola, Porta Venezia, Lambrate. Every courtyard, showroom and garage in central Milan is rented. Freight movement in the centre is constrained. Accommodation is at its annual peak.
If you are not part of design week, do not schedule anything in Milan that week. If you are, book the venue a year out. That is not an exaggeration.
January and June — menswear
Shorter and calmer than the women's weeks, but they still lock the city's production capacity. Men's Fall/Winter 2027–28 runs 15 to 19 January 2027; Men's Spring/Summer 2028 runs 18 to 22 June 2027.
These weeks are genuinely good windows for a brand that wants to be visible without competing against sixty shows. Crew availability is real, venues are obtainable at three to four months, and press schedules have space in them.
August — the city closes
From roughly the last week of July to the end of August, Milan empties. Suppliers close for two to three weeks, permitting offices run reduced service, and the press are not in the country.
Nothing happens in August. Plan around it in both directions: a September event has to be substantially finished before the shutdown begins, because the four weeks of August are not four working weeks. This single fact breaks more September projects than any other.
December — the short pre-holiday window
The first two weeks of December are a genuinely good and underused window: the city is active, press are working, and venues are more available than in autumn. After roughly 20 December it is over until the second week of January.
The quiet weeks nobody asks for
Late May and early June. Late October and November. Early March.
These are the best weeks in the Milan year for a brand that wants a room, attention and a working budget. Venues negotiate. Crews are available. Journalists can accept an invitation without choosing between three events on the same evening.
Almost every client who asks us for a September date would get a better result in early November, and a meaningful number of them come round to it once the September quote arrives.
When to call about a venue
Working lead times for central Milan:
Fashion week or design week — 9 to 12 months
The week adjacent to a major week — 5 to 6 months
Standard periods, historic or institutional venues — 3 to 4 months
Standard periods, commercial venues and showrooms — 6 to 10 weeks
Anything in the first three weeks of September — before June
And note the separate clock: securing a venue is not securing a permission. Permissions run on the Comune's timeline, not the venue's. See Notes / 03.
The short version
There are about five weeks you cannot have, four months in which you can have almost anything, and one month in which nothing exists.
If you have a market and a budget but no fixed date, tell us that. The date is usually the cheapest variable in the whole project, and it is the one clients decide first and reconsider least.
